doing mercy.

Last night, as Gary and I were walking on the dock, we met 22 year old Alimou as he arrived from up-country Guinea.  This three kilo tumor began to grow eight years ago.   The physical and emotional suffering that he must have endured is hard for me to comprehend.   As we introduced ourselves in extremely limited French and were greeted by as close to a smile as Alimou could muster,  I wondered, why is it that I still complain when the air conditioning is on the fritz or I don’t like what we’re having for dinner?

Dr. Mark Shrime and Gary removed Alimou’s  tumor today.

Alimou, recovering on the ward, one week post-op.
May hope and healing become a new reality in his life.
